As with nearly all of my poems, the reader should keep a sharp eye out for a metaphorical meaning.
The word 'deluge' is deliberately chosen to echo the reputed words of King Louis XV of France, 'Apres moi le deluge.' (After me, the flood). The most common interpretation is that if the revolution against him was successful, the nation would be plunged into chaos.
