An Autumn Sonnet

by RodG

Alone I trod a trail leaf-strewn
Nostalgic, wistful as I walk.

All trees white-gold this Autumn dawn
Until cold rains, brisk winds defrock.
Trunks tall as Titans clasp pale sky,
Usurp the earth, crowd flowers out.
My gait slows down; they wonder why.
"No need to worry, trees, " I shout.

Some long-forgotten memory
Of newlyweds one summer day.
Nadine and I strolled happily
Neath these same boughs, this passageway.
Each step she took earned me a kiss.
Today I sadly reminisce.

Yes, I know this is not a true SHAKESPEARIAN sonnet. The meter is iambic, but not pentamter. The format Is a little different, too. I hope you like it and thank you for reading.
