She bloomed before my eyes, a perfect rose--
and love beyond my dreams could reach no close.
                                                                Dream's endless day.

In tender shades all hopes we could conceive
entwined our souls, a lovely quilt to weave.
                                                      A wordless play.

But 'neath the waters of that placid lake
her eyes closed tight and never would they wake
                                                               Deep blue turned grey.

Her grave now beckons, for it holds my life.
A pistol reunites me with my wife …
                                                          and here we'll stay.
