A Little Courtin'

by michaelcahill

Ahh .. my fair flower flourishing in fineness
my feathers fan fabulously for you alone
see me dance!
My talons tangle not in the underbrush
do you blush … are you flush with desire

I wonder if this prancing fool has done this bit before?
Uh … YES! Only a few thousand times
just a moment ago for that frumpy one wing wench
who hasn't layed an egg in … well
Oh my! Rock it, my dazzling, snazzling besmazzler!

Don't blow it now. She's diggin' it, not that I can blame her.
Let me sing!
The stars and maybe Mars and a night to poop on cars
that's just the start of what I bring to you
coo coo cacoo
We'll build a nest
The very best
Our beaks will meet
Tweet, tweet, tweet, tweet …

I know he's a loser without a nest and surely a pest
but that tail is hypnotizing and I can't resist!
Uh, yeah. I guess you'll do.

The Superb Bird-of-Paradise

The superb bird-of-paradise (Lophorina superba) is a small passerine, about 26cm long. It is the only member in the genus Lophorina. The male is a black bird-of-paradise with a shining green crown, blue-green breast shield and a long velvety black erectile cape covering his back. The female is a reddish-brown bird with brownish barred buff below.
The superb bird-of-paradise lives in the rainforests of New Guinea.
The male is polygamous and performs a song and dance for to gain the interest of the female. He starts by singing loud and rapid notes, then he starts to hop around in front of the female making a tapping or clicking sound. Then, he uses his folded black cape and blue-green breast shield to spring upward and spreads widely around its head, making him a dancing ellipse-shaped creature.
