Exceptional
This work has reached the exceptional level
The greatest of all

A Superior Lake

by Boogienights

The greatest of all lakes is Superior,
both in name and in beauty.
The power it exudes is frightening.
Like a woman scorned, nothing compares to the fury
of Lake Superior in a blustery November storm.
Mourned
are the dead who rest in watery graves.
Cradling the Edmund Fitzgerald, where no poor souls were saved.
Restless spirits call out from the deep dark depths,
so many ship wrecks with secrets to keep.
So much history untold, forever unsolved.
Mysterious lake, so wise and old.

Yet...

When the sun creates a million sparkling diamonds on it's surface
and gentle waves lap upon it's shores.
When sailboats glide along powered by a gentle wind,
swimmers waving to those aboard.
When fishermen hold up their prized catch of the day,
we understand why the mighty lake holds sway.
Now, having been caught in it's spell,
there is nowhere to go that will break the bond.
Lake Superior is where my heart belongs.

Writing Prompt
Write a free verse poem on any topic as long as it is related to a body of water, sea, ocean, lake, river etc. This includes sailing, diving, swimming, submarines, battleships, surfing or whatever else one might do on or in the water. OR just write about the bodies of water themselves.

NO, I don't want anything clever like an icecube or a glass of water. I don't want the human body because it's 70 percent water. Nothing stretching the theme. Actual bodies of water PLEASE. Hey, I understand, I go off the deep end myself. LOL

Presentation is entirely up to you.

Remember, FREE VERSE. No rhyming patterns or forms please. YES, you may have a lot of rhyme and poetic devices, just NO PATTERNS.
