Wanderlust

We sit beside the train tracks,
my very best friend and I.
A gentle rain is falling,
down from the stormy sky.
In rolling fields before us,
cows bellow soft and low.
As darkness falls the setting sun
puts on it's evening show.
We wait anticipating,
the mighty steam engines roar.
This time we will be ready,
not like the times before.
An open boxcar's all we need,
with a grip that's strong and sure.
For the wanderlust that's in us,
this is the only cure.
Our hearts are light and joyful,
we sing a happy song.
Train wheels beat out a rhythm
as the boxcar sways along.
What we will find's not certain,
our future we can't see.
But we will be together,
excited and carefree.
The next stop is adventure,
out in the open air.
Whatever fate has planned for us,
together we'll be there.
Hand in hand we take a leap,
through future's open door.
We feel the same, yet different
than we did the day before.
There's no money in our pockets
but there's hope within our hearts.
So here we go, the time is now.
This is where it all starts.
