God's Paint Set Contest Submission
I dreamt I stood upon the clouds as Jesus held my hand,
The sadness in my heart had been too much for me to stand.
He said, ''My child I know the grief that you have had to bear,
And that it's hard for you to find the beauty anywhere.''
I said, ''My Lord the world for me is dark and oh so cold,''
He touched my face, smiled down at me and then He said, "Behold!"
I saw the world through younger eyes, the way it used to be,
Before life took its' toll on me; before, when I was free.
Free from pain existing brings, free from all the strife,
Free from all the pressure felt living this thing called life.
I watched as sun's rays glowed in orange and red to greet the day,
Then beams of gold spread o'er the earth and chased the night away.
The dew kissed grass in hues of green sparkled in the light,
I stared in awe as three doves flew by plumed in purest white.
Blossoms bloomed in all colours that you could e'er suppose,
But I was drawn to one sweet bud, it was a single rose.
It lay alone upon the ground its' beauty so unique,
I caught my breath, my heart stood still, I felt I could not speak.
Its' petals were like drops of blood, its's stem was crowned with thorns,
The sorrow that I felt was like that of one who mourns.
''My Lord,'' I cried, please save that rose for it will surely die,
I've had enough of this cruel earth and having to say goodbye.''
''My child,'' He said, '' though death will come to every living thing,
Rest assured with faith and hope eternal life I bring.''
I woke to darkness all around and turned to check the time,
The shades of night that filled my room were somehow quite sublime.
I got down on my knees and wept thanking Jesus as I prayed,
For loving mankind enough to die so our debts could be paid.
