Another train ride.

by zanya

Josh checked the train schedule on his phone. Leaving Rome, on the weekend and heading to Florence was his favourite trip. Rome was for tourists at the weekend. Still he rather liked the idea. There was always another train ride to another city. It had been five years since he left Maine.

Scrowling on his Facebook page, he noticed the 'Happy Birthday bud' messages. Yes, he thought , thirty today . These guys and their automated responses.

Boarding the train, he caught sight of himself in the carriage window. A few grey hairs shone brightly, through his mop of black curls. Even a few crows feet, as his sister, Maggie, called them, had begun to form around his eyes.

The mates on Facebook were probably too busy changing diapers to notice a few, telltale, grey hairs.

Shifting uncomfortably in his seat, he checked out his father, Bill's profile at the law firm. Forty years service and still a consultant for Forves & Millar. How boring it had all seemed to him, as a rebellious teenager, way back then.
Now he wasn't so sure. Was it time to retire his backpack and swop it for a brief case?
