Knight of Sorrow

by karenina

Stacked 5-7-5 Contest Winner

Many years ago
a knight in shining armor
stole my maiden-heart.

His blue eyes twinkled
as he pledged to me his troth.
Bridal bliss was mine.

Within the kingdom
were lasses full of envy.
Flirtation flourished.

Gravid clouds brought rains,
deep thunderous temptations.
Trust crumbled to rust.

His bolts came undone,
before me stood a weak man
fallen from his steed.

Still I forgave him,
for our child grew within me.
Love's a fickle thing.

He wed another,
as young and fair as I was
when all things were new.

I rock his daughter,
sing lullabies of white knights...
curse my wedding ring.
