A Poem About a Favorite Food

Memories of Dad

No one would seriously eat green eggs and ham,
anymore than you would choose to dine on canned Spam.
However embarrassing it is to confess
and, no, I am not writing this under duress,
I have to admit I actually cook Spam
and serve it with pineapple and honeyed yam.
I have good reason for this bizarre addiction,
although it may appear to be a strange affliction.
When Dad was a soldier in World War II,
this form of meat was part of their menu.
It wasn't the taste but the memories he had
of good times shared with his fellow comrades.
He served it on our dinner table, 'til he passed.
So, now I eat Spam to make my memories last.
