The Hum Drums paid us a visit
Yes, we freely opened the door
In they stumbled
In they grumbled
Quite littering up our floor
 
The Hum Drums paid us a visit
They’re such a weary lot
They don’t like this
They don’t like that
They don’t like anything we've got
 
The Hum Drums paid us a visit
They nagged at us all day:
“Don’t get dressed.”
“Don’t go outside.”
They wouldn’t go away
 
The Hum Drums paid us a visit
But then much to our surprise:
Some paper we grabbed
Then two pencils we nabbed
“You’ve met your match, you boring guys.”

The Hum Drums paid us a visit
And when they started to fuss
We wrote this little nonsense poem
To make them leave our humdrum home
And now they’ve all deserted us!

We're so glad they didn't stay
If ever they appear at your front door,
Laugh and write and laugh some more
We promise you'll chase them away!
