Forty-three years ago, we adopted our son Brian through Catholic Charities. It was a "closed" adoption, so we discovered little about the birth parents. The years passed, and Brian was not the least bit curious about his genealogy until he became a parent.
For a Father's Day gift, his wife ordered an Ancestry DNA kit. The results opened previously closed doors. Our son, an only child, discovered his birth mother, three brothers, and two sisters.
Both families welcomed him with open arms. As it turns out, he has been only thirty-five miles away from these blood relatives all these years.
