Memory Lapse

by BlueMarble

We've all done it; I know it’s true,
Forgot what we walked into a room to do.
Some other task catches our mind,
Some other chore we to tend we find.
Like going in the kitchen in search of our keys,
And walking out with a sandwich of cheese.

That's what happened when I opened that door
And saw all the litter on the floor.
I forgot why I'd entered the room
Instead I went in search of a broom.
I scrubbed that floor and made it shine,
I used the cleaner that smells like pine.

I left that place looking clean and neat
Then poured a drink and found a seat.
But just one sip had me back on my feet,
I needed to make a quick retreat.
Oh dear, I've never done that before,

I'd forgotten what I’d gone into the bathroom for.
