Rhyme & Reason

by Heather Knight

Unfair Accusation Contest Winner
They tell me I cannot rhyme,
Say my meter is off-track.
If they repeat it one more time,
I will resort to my prozac.

I know I should stick to prose,
But poetry challenges me,
I love trying to compose
Lovely verses full of glee.

I still cannot understand
That iambic pentameter thing.
I do think it should be banned.
It's free verse that makes me sing.

How will I defend myself
Next time my critics attack?
I'll tell them the poetry elf,
Endowed me with a modernist knack.
