Enduring winter on the plains

Northman Sweeps In

by HarryT

The Northman sweeps upon us
with no mercy he spreads an
icy, white blanket over our
helpless prairie.

His freezing breath rattles
our teepee, we pray the skins
and wooden poles stand firm
against his battering blasts

Our friends the buffalo huddle
to fend off his bitter snorts
we fasten tight the teepee's flap
build our fires tall, knowing his
cold brutality will be with us until the
Great Spirit sends the warming sun
