The Not So Boring Accountant

Susanna Sharpe walked through the open plan office and male eyes followed her. Colleagues turned heads and looked with obvious pleasure.

"My God," one man at the water-cooler said as Susanna walked past him, "be still my beating heart." She had the wavy blonde hair, sparkling blue eyes and perfect skin that a modelling agency would die for, but she lived with different priorities. In many ways, she was not the accountant many expected when they graced her office.

She had been forced against her will by her parents to enter Accountancy College and graduated with a B.A. with honours. Her ambition was to be a pilot with the Royal Air Force. John Sharpe had won that battle, but was to lose many more.

A Parachute freefall for charity, Hang-gliding, Shark fishing, Mountain climbing, Susanna had determinedly opposed all resistance in those activities and several others.

"She has more adrenalin than a men's rugby team," her line manager said one day. He sponsored her for her latest adventure: a flight around the earth. Her clients, colleagues and fellow graduates had raised the staggering amount of one hundred thousand pounds, and Susanna was enrolled in Virgin's flight simulation training.

Every day, she threw herself wholeheartedly into being spun around, tossed and turned, and endured a rigorous exercise programme. The academic tests she breezed through. But suddenly her world crashed. She failed a medical.

Two weeks prior to her latest adventure she found out she had a tumour and her life was changed forever. It was one battle she would not win.
