And She Appeared

by RodG

When I was only twenty-five,
I swore I'd die a bachelor.
There was no femme fatale alive
who'd steal my heart from me, no sir!

"I'll play the field," I said with glee,
"perennially with no regret."
I said all this most candidly
till she appeared; t'was like kismet.

I saw her strolling on the shore
in long white skirt with easy grace.
And as the tide did froth before
her steps, she turned toward me her face.

My heart stood still; it had no choice
when she bestowed on me her smile.
"Hello," she said. An angel's voice!
"I'm Angie. Walk with me awhile."
