donnybrook, north dakota
by judester
A familiar envelope
pokes through the mail slot,
drifts to the floor and
settles on
salt stained galoshes.
In a sing song voice, he whispers softly,
"we regret to inform you,,,"
The next great author
stoops with a sigh.
On a wooden table stained with coffee rings
and frustration,
he finds the gluestick, stuck
under his stalled masterpiece.
A weird sense of accomplishment
as he fills the final square of blank wall.
Seven years of rejection slips,
wallpaper a room in
Donnybrook,
North Dakota.
