A Christmas Song
two Christmas trees

The spirit of Christmas, in two different homes,
A mansion on the hill overlooking the town,
And the one by the tracks, where the poor gather round.
In the big mansion, no laughter is heard,
new iphones and gadgets, silently absurd.
Nothing is cooking, they ordered on line,
to be delivered, with dessert and red wine.
Now down by the tracks, the poor family gathers,
presents exchanged, home made, they would rather.
Delicious smells swirl, sweet country ham,
pumpkin pie, eggnog and doubled baked yams.
Both families gathered, but in different ways
One family is distant, nothing to say.
Their tree is a masterpiece from tip to floor
A sacrificed symbol, prettied up, then ignored.
Now the family that's poor? Well, I think you're wrong
They're laughing, and sharing traditional songs.
Celebrating each other, 'round their little tree
Yes, they celebrate family, today, blissfully.
