While You Sleep

by Allison78

My heavy lids flutter
As the sounds of late summer
Lull me to sleep
Against my will
Frogs, cicadas and crickets
An occasional owl
The breeze through the window
Foretelling fall
Yet summer's dew still
Stains my skin
My hair sticks to my cheeks
And my gown is formed to my breasts
The ticking of the clock
Never stops
I envy your peaceful sleep
Your wanting sleep
This is my peaceful time
I must stay awake
To indulge in it
To feel the warmth of your skin
Without words
Or obligation
The ticking of the clock never stops
