Thoughts of a pair of gym shoes buried in a closet

Playmates

by HarryT

"Hey, Jock-guy, look down, remember us?
Down here, buried back in the corner of the closet
We know , were just a pair of old smelly sneakers,
barely held together by tattered, stained shoelaces

Our white canvas is now grey with sweat webs.
Yeah, our silver eyelets are rusted and pitted and
our soles worn smooth from screeching on the floor
But, Jock-guy, why can't we play just one more?

Remember, our scars are from your zone busting play.
We know we look shabby and might even droop, but
remember how we helped you fly down the court
C'mon put us on, let us hold your ankles tight
Jock-guy, please lace us up, let's play just one more"

Played basketball in high school. Wondered what an old pair of gym shoes would say after years of being in a closet.
