A short recall of why ice is important in our lives

Ice Ages

by HarryT

On torrid evenings, Dad beat the weatherman
Ice blocks, washtub, and plugged-in oscillating fan.
In winter, Fridays at seven, blades down at the flooded park
On the ice, cracking the whip in wide swinging arcs

We'd grab icicles that dangled from gutters
Battles with ice swords made mothers shutter
Nurses' ice packs healed playground bruises
Ice cubes aided our illicit high school boozin

Today, ice brings us cooling delight
Crystal cubes tinkle on cocktail nights
So let's be thankful for the sparkle of ice
And the cool enjoyment it adds to our life
