We fight a losing battle in the garden against possums, cate

Impossible Vigilance

P ossum pounding, bounding by
Q uite a noise on tiles and tin.
R ousing sleepers, half awake
S lip out with torch to scan the trees and vines.
F ruit trees are totally hacked, tomatoes are still intact.

Nb while "chomped" would be a more accurate word "hacked" refers to the possums ability to get through the various garden "firewalls" like tree nets and companion plants designed to keep them out. They just turn the leaves on our fruit trees into little small pieces.
