Six sentence story
Aluminum Splinters
by jmdg1954
A tremendous effort from the bench warmers thwarted the opponents' momentum as the self-proclaimed Aluminum Splinters rose to the occasion by banging out hit after hit. Geist's textbook bunt hugged the chalk of the third base foul line, then died when it turned into fair territory. Rock Newman singled and Billy C. walked. The most improbable hit was executed by Scooter, the team's youngest player, when his bloop hit ricocheted off second base into right field. These kids who literally play the league minimum number of innings, sent the game to extra innings. Although they did eventually lose the game, their hope and inspiration grew giving them reason to be positive for the games ahead.
