Dearest Friend

My dearest friend has aged from childhood's past.
I still recall the day her touch was new.
Each note she sung, more precious than the last.
Our bond would only flourish as we grew.

A love beheld, so rarely known by few,
we freely shared through all my joys and tears.
She softly offered refuge I found true
while comforting the woes beneath my fears.

But time is just as harsh as it appears.
Her iv'ry keys grow frail as thus do I.
So seldom does her music soothe thy ears
when sadly aging bones can not comply.

But soon the grace of Heaven will restore
and there we'll sing aloud forever more.

Writing Prompt
A Spenserian Sonnet was created by Edmund Spenser (1552 - 1599). It is a variation or a Shakespearean sonnet - it has three quatrains and a couplet. But there is a twist where you employ linking rhymes between quatrains. The rhyme scheme is ABAB, BCBC, CDCD, EE - and it is to be written in iambic pentameter.

I had a different colored font rather than this dull gray but
the new changes to the site won't let me edit it to the original
color I had for some unknown reason.
