Exceptional
This work has reached the exceptional level
Eternal flames and those still in between - God bless!

The Pen

When pen is new and page is white
We freely open up to write
There’s inspiration in all things
Imagination soars on wings
A verse beheld in every sight
                                    
We let our every dream take flight
We do not fear eternal night
Excited by what each day brings
When pen is new
 
We do not think about what’s right
We madly scribble while there’s light
Enraptured by the myths of kings
We’ll create rhyme on anything
Each word we etch the soul ignites
When pen is new
 
The half-filled pen no longer mocks
The death chimes of the ticking clocks
For in the distance, setting sun
Reminds us of what’s not begun
Once opened doors impaled by locks
 
The inner core of life, time rocks
Creating many deadly blocks
Encouragement, we can find none
The half-filled pen
 
Then opportunity does knock
We answer it in happy shock
In desperation become one
With erstwhile muse who stirred such fun
And once again the words now flock
The half-filled pen
 
The empty pen has run its race
Can words expire without a trace?
Each thought left to posterity
Provides a living legacy
Written wisdom uttered in grace
 
Words that transcend all time and space
A lasting presence without face
A gift to all eternity
The empty pen
 
Yet even in the dark we chase
And frantically maintain our pace
Each word a birth of progeny
This labored effort makes us free
We used it all then left this place
The empty pen

Many thanks to MoonWillow for the deeply meditative artwork.

This is a stacked Rondeau as I am still trying to figure this style out. The rhyming scheme will change with the progression between new, half-filled, and empty intentionally as I also wanted the three to be able to stand alone.
