Some thoughts about the Golden Rule
A chapter in the book The Heart of Poetry
All that glitters
by Carolyn 'Deaton' Stephens
There is a song that goes, 'all that glitters is not gold.'
Sometimes the world uses the beautiful 'Golden Rule' of Matthew 7:12 in ways that the Lord did not intend. He said, "whatsoever you want men to do to you, do also to them".. In other words, as we have heard it all our life, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."
I find it so very interesting, that we have used a precious metal, to represent that particular passage. And fittingly so.
Gold can be beaten into any shape, it can be ran over by a train, it can go through fire, be melted and poured into a mold , it can withstand ocean depths and salt water, yet will not tarnish,it will always retain its shine.
When alloys and other metals are added, we may have white gold, green gold, even pink gold, however, once again, if it goes through fire all those 'additives' are burned away (refined) if you will, and pure gold is left. As pure as when it started.
The measurement that God gave us, 'The Golden Rule,' can not be destroyed, it is perfect in nature. It remains pure. However, mankind may try to change it by 'doing unto others before they do it unto me.' They may avoid it and even shame it, but it can not be denied. It will always be the best way, to deal with every situation, in a world of chaos.
Wouldn't it be a great thing if National leaders would implement the 'Golden Rule?'
Perhaps we could have World Peace after all.
