Condemn Us Not

by Zue65

CONDEMN US NOT

we meet at the corridor
with our eyes on the floor
trying to sweep the dust
you thrust with disgust
you branded us traitors
as we pick the apples

we never shed our roots
we feast on native fruits
but don't deny us women
to redirect convention
this freedom to reject
genital mutilation

Recognized

Genital mutilation is a rite of passage from girlhood to womanhood where a girl's clitoris is castrated, a ritual you can't reject in remote areas in Ethiopia. The proverbial apple is symbolical of free will. No capitalization, no punctuation, the rhymes are incidental. Thanks MoonWillow for the art work.
