A chapter in the book Writing Prompt Entries 2014
Doreen

I don’t know why I kissed her. I’m not the impulsive type. She was just so happy to see me.
As she shuffled into the hallway, I almost knocked her over. I steadied her and she looked up and smiled… It was like the sun had come out from behind the clouds.
“I missed you” she said, putting her arms around me. I couldn’t help but kiss her cheek as she embraced me.
I didn’t know her, but the name-plate on her door identified her as ‘Doreen’.
As I drove away from the care-home, my heart felt lighter somehow.
