From a distance and another time, we loved
although in this life, we’ve only just met
our spirits of yesterday conspired
a meeting at this junction, lest we forget.

Another time, another life, we made vows,
yet, today, we know it’s still not our time.
Yes, we love, admire and respect each other,
but I know in my heart, you'll never be mine.

The world that continues to separate us now
is no less small, nor more immense
than the customs and mores that define us
becoming our life, our enemy, our defense.

So, darling, from afar I continue to adore you,
I’m content to live without you all my days.
I have peace knowing our love is intense,
but too much separates us in too many ways.

I want to express my love a thousand times over,
but it won’t bring you joy, only anguish and pain.
Today, I'm alone. I think of tomorrow's world -
Will it ever accept without a need to explain?
