A Lesson Carried Through Life

The Lesson

by LoannaLois

I made a covered mail box
With ribbon, hearts, and string.
I thought I'd act surprised
As it was filled.

But as the Valentines were brought-
Anticipation building...
Bernard had not shown up;
My hopes were killed.

Since long ago I've had to learn
About love letting go.
And we don't always win
The prize we choose.

We live our lives and share our hearts
And understand the time,
Bernard gave me a treasured gift:
I didn't lose.
