Death Row
by Spiritual Echo
It was her first shift at the state-run facility. Grace imagined her posting on death row allowed her inexperience to have no impact, giving her a chance to get used to the despair on the faces of the inmates.
Through the night, she was drawn to the man in the bed at the end of the corridor. His blue eyes remained open, as if standing sentinel for the last hours of his life.
"Aren't you frightened?" She whispered from the doorway.
"No," he responded.
"Time of death noted." The doctor signed the chart and continued his hospital rounds.
