A poem for mom

Nostalgia

by Lady Ginja

A nostalgic trip down memory lane,
While my heart is cippled with unbearable pain.
Secrets revealed and ghosts put away.
There is only so much that words can say.
A person so tainted by depression and strife,
Could come from a place filled with beauty and life.
Oh where is that child that on a farm I found?
Her ashes are scattered on top of the ground;
Her beauty is lost but her memory lives on,
In the eyes of her family and my every heart's song.
So many pieces were stolen away,
And in one weekend found a home to stay.
Pieces of me that I just couldn't see had been taken from me.
Now a long journey home,
And my thoughts start to roam,
Through a flood of her love, her life, her hurt, her strength...
Her legacy.

5-7-5 Poetry Contest contest entry

My mom passes away 5 years ago, and lived a life filled with depression and unhappiness. Death, in a way, was showing her mercy when he took her from us. My husband and I visited her cousin's farm. She grew up running around barefoot and carefree there, and talking to my family there about her past,I was moved to write this poem in the car on our way home.
Pays one point and 2 member cents.
