The Least of These

The widow
seated in the sixth pew
kneels.
She casts her whispered words
like bread before birds
and wonders  --
Does God yearn to be touched
as much as she does?
Calling on a faith
catalogued in a
crackly suitcase
she drinks in His face
and prays through the pain.
