Farewell to my dear brother

Goodbye

by justchillin

Ring ring, ring ring.! Who can that be?
So late, it's prob'ly passed midnight
I ran quickly downstairs to see
Twas bad news, that could not be right

My poor brother had been found dead
So shocked, the words would not sink in
Thoughts, whirling around in my head
I felt sick, with cold goose bump skin

They said pain was not felt at all
He suffered a huge heart attack
I banged my head, hard on the wall
Cos' now he was not coming back

That was when the memories came
Big buckets of tears fell as well
Was this a dream? Was I insane?
It was hopeless, this felt like 'hell'

He was twelve years older than I
And so caring, when I was small
Lots of lovely things, he did buy
Always there, in case I should fall

He taught me to drive, and I passed
He mended my car when it died
A friendship that I knew would last
A cuddle whenever I cried

Often we'd go out in his truck
And be driving for miles, and miles
Bringing with him, loads of good luck
And so many, many, sweet smiles

Those times meant all the world to me
We would sing to 'transistor tunes'
Whilst eating burnt bacon 'sarnies'
At one of the old 'greasy spoons'

I saw him last? Distant days passed
But I held his face in my head
New photo now? I was aghast!
My proud, precious picture, fast fled

Yes, it was my brother I saw
A different man, and so grey
I should have seen him, long before
Now this pain, just won't go away

So, this is for you, Dear Brian
For I feel our time's standing still
While I ask you, ' Please forgive me?'
My heavy heart hopes, that you will
