You never see the polish in my shine
Reflecting any efforts that I tried
It wouldn't matter if it looked just fine
You'll criticise each method I've applied

I'm capable despite your much ado
Insists the way I hold my tongue is wrong
According to your caustic point of view
My lyrics hardly ever fit your song

Discouragement's assurance says I fail
To ever reach the standard you require
Pure vitriol shall flow as you exhale
It rarely gives me reason to aspire

The fact I'll never measure up is clear
I just can't buff the cracks from my veneer ...
