Back at Brianna's House on Date Night
A chapter in the book Keith & Brianna
The Talk
by sunnilicious
Ms. Harley picked up the phone and called her ex-husband. "Hello Carl."
"I'm at Harpoon Louies with my wife. This better be important Pania," said Carl.
"Call me when you get home," and the ex-Mrs. Harley hung up the phone.
Ex-Mrs. Harley's phone immediately started to ring. She sat at the kitchen table and watched it ring.
On the fifth ring, Pania answered the phone, "Hi again."
"Pania, it's me Mary. Carl is upset. You're ruining our dinner. He's a successful Accountant. And needs time for his new family," a soft-spoken Mary reported.
"I didn't realize it was Friday night. I'm just worried about Brianna. And she's not home now. So, it's a good time for me to talk to Carl," Pania confided in Carl's new wife.
Mary grew quite concerned, "Ohhh Brianna, well... I completely understand. It's okay. Here talk to Carl."
"Pania, make it quick," Carl requested.
"Brianna has been going out with someone for 10 or 11 months now. His name is Keith. I think he's 4 or 5 years older than her. I met him. He seems like a nice guy. And he just got a promotion at work. They're almost married. Shouldn't we have met his folks by now," Pania Harley asked her ex-husband?
"I see the kids every week. Brianna hasn't mentioned a stitch about him," Carl replied. "Do you think she's pregnant?"
"Carl, brace yourself. I don't even think they do anything," Pania chuckled.
"Whataya mean," he asked?
Pania went on, "Keith visits after work all the time. Sometimes, he has dinner here or does take-out with a movie for the family to enjoy. Every Friday, he takes Brianna to the nail salon. Then, they go on a date. Dinner and movies."
"So he's really a good guy just like Daddy," uttered Carl.
"Saturday night, he babysits Cole and Jeanie with her at our house. And they go out for a few hours with friends to play volleyball or tennis at the park on Sunday. I check up on them once in a while. It's like a normal routine," Pania sounded puzzled.
"Really that good," Carl was impressed. "Find his number. Then, call his parents up and invite them over next Saturday for dinner. I'll be there too. Mary can order some Indian food for us to platter up on the table," decided Carl.
Pania replied, "Carl, Saturday is my date night with Mr. Patterson. I don't want to break my date."
A stunned Carl asked, "You go out with the music teacher?"
"Wow. Well, invite him too. I'll bring Mary. The more the merrier. And don't tell Brianna. I want us all to see the look on their faces," replied Carl.
"Are you sure," Pania asked Carl?
"Of course, it's okay. My first born is getting engaged. You better make sure the liquor cabinet is full," Carl told her.
Pania got scared, "You could be jumping to conclusions. We're going to give those kids an inferiority complex of some sort."
"Listen Pania, I have to wrap this call up. After you confirm with Keith's parents, call Mary and work out all the details of this little event. Good night," as Carl hung up the phone.
Pania replied, "Good night."
"I can't wait to meet the in-laws," Carl tenderly told Mary over dessert.
