Taking time for granted
One More Year With You
I’ve been flipping through a photo book,
looking back at years we both
took for granted.
Where did time go?
Year after year,
How could we have known,
We’d say goodbye so soon?
We didn't see how time would pass.
Before we're ready we say our
last goodbye.
Those photographs
page after page
captured smiles and frozen laughs
Our time ended all too soon?
Your combat boots with your old canteen,
dressing up just like my
Marine daddy.
How did time fly?
day after day,
Will we learn why
We had to say goodbye so soon.
Happy pictures on my wedding day.
Oh, how I wish it could be that
way forever.
Enjoy it while it lasts
Time after time
As you look into the past
It always ends too soon
You held your grandson in his first year,
you're whispering in his ear-
he's laughing.
It makes me sad
Smile after smile
Stolen moments with granddad,
whose life was gone too soon
Now as each picture fills my mind,
they're reminding me time has not been
kind to us.
I ask for one more year
prayer after prayer
time that is dear
Please answer my prayer soon.

This is a poem about how fast life can be taken away. I never believed that I would be preparing for my fathers death so soon.
I have really learned to embrace each moment you have with your loved ones because tomorrow is not promised to us.
