A fantasy Visit to Loch Ness

Nessie's Night

by Helvi2

A story born in old Loch Ness
Tells of a scary beast
A scaly serpent of the sea
That swims in there to feast

I dared to think that I might see
If what they said was true
So on a ship with mighty sails
I crossed the ocean blue

I hoped with everything within
That I would catch a view
For glimpses of this so called one
Are rare and very few

Upon a night when stars were bright
This monster of the deep
Breached the sea from depths below
And woke me from my sleep

My feet flew to the poop deck fast
To get an awesome peek
My curiosity was strong
For what I sought to seek

Pure magic seemed to fill the air
The moment that I saw
Old Nessie, 'neath the moonlight
And those green scales of awe

A dragon rose before my eyes
With dolphins by her side
Yet all seemed in a playful mood
Where fear did not reside

Surrounded by her so called friends
She'd make a dive or two
Then jumped beyond the stars themselves
To crash in whoop-de-do

Her splashdown was enormous and
I felt the whole ship rock
But it was meant as only fun
As dolphins surfed each shock

Great rings of fire did appear
But they were meant as hoops
Where aerobatic leaping pals
Could do their loop-de-loops

In Nessie's eyes I saw such joy
I couldn't hold mine back
Her roar was only laughter heard
Not sounds of an attack

The tales of oceanic lore
Proved not to be the case
Though behemoth she may be
I never saw such grace

A kindred soul this Nessie was
No evil from the sea
One can not judge by just a glance
With what you think you see

This frisky dragon of the deep
Unveiled new truths to me
For is it she who bears true soul
Or man the monster be ?

In creating a picture of Nessie for Fan Art I couldn't resist to write a poetic story too. This is my fun story of Nessie with a moral at the end. For kids and grown ups.
