Birdbrains

The x-ray scanners loomed before us like publicly sanctioned peeping toms. Whistling softly, I tried to appear calm as the line progressed at a maddening crawl.
An elderly woman ahead of me clutched what appeared to be a covered bird cage. I could see security eyeballing us and nervous sweat began to drip from my brow. All I wanted to do was get home.
When it was my fellow flyer's turn to be violated, her brave bird broke the tension as his raucous avian voice rang out loud and clear.
"But I have wings! I don't need no plane!"
