Carrie's Prayer
by Spiritual Echo
Carrie knelt by the altar, bathed in vibrant colors streaming through the stained glass window.
She no longer knew whether she was praying for a reprieve or death.
Since the diagnosis, Carrie measured her days by the number of painkillers she consumed. Lately the pain was a constant companion.
There were three murders, in as many months in this neighborhood. Each woman was followed, then shot as she climbed the steps of the parish.
Carrie heard the footsteps near the front of the church and the click as the safety was released.
"Dear Jesus. Thank you for hearing my prayer."
