The last adieu
A chapter in the book Flash Fiction
Unnamed and Untamed
by Begin Again
Well seasoned to mountain life, the rider maneuvered her horse across the rocky ridge. The rattler uncurled, sinking its fangs deep into the filly's flesh.
The wild stallion's black coat gleamed in the sultry heat. His hoof pounded the loose gravel as he stood precariously close to the cliff's edge. His nostrils flared. Seconds later, he reared high, pawing the air. His gut-wrenching cry echoed across the canyon.
In the valley below him lay the lifeless body of Amy Walker. Amidst the thicket, her faithful Appaloosa whinnied, taking a last breath.
Recognizing the smell of death, the wild stallion bid his friends adieu.
