A chapter in the book Flash Fiction
The Winning Ticket
by Begin Again
His caramel eyes were a welcome addition behind the counter. His fingers grazed mine. A current shot through me. I inhaled.
"Here's the winning lottery ticket." He smiled.
"Right! I never win." I frowned.
"Maybe your luck will change." He winked.
The next day, I returned with my losing ticket. "Told you I was wasting my time."
He handed me two new tickets. Confused, I looked questioningly at him. "What's this?"
"Dinner and dancing Saturday night. Want to take a chance?" His eyes twinkled.
My heart skipped a beat. "I don't know."
"Guaranteed winner."
An elderly woman nudged me and laughed, "If you don't, I will."
I giggled. "They're sold."
