A faithful tradition
Grandmother's Sunday Tradition
by BellaSpirit
Grandmother dressed up in her Sunday’s best
Adorned in beautiful flowing vintage
Pretty pinks, cornflower blues, in soft hues
Hand sewn from cloth flour sacks, she had saved
Scented with lilac and freshly ironed
Shined in her beautiful calico dress
Grandmother’s hair, neatly rolled, tucked, and pinned
Face, freshly scrubbed, pink cheeks, without makeup
Eyes bright, filled with love for her family
Hands soft to touch, but toughened from hard work
Bible tucked under arm with purse in hand
She marched with determination to church
Grandmother’s Sunday dinner fit for kings
Luscious homemade pies with meringue peaked high
Golden fried chicken cooked to perfection
Garden fresh vegetables and cornbread, too
The table graced with family and friends
Joined hand in hand to give thanks to the Lord
Grandmother’s old pump organ singing praise
In tune with grandfather’s fiddling charm
Tenors, bass, and falsettos, harmonize
Children join in with swirling merriment
A patchwork of musical worshiping
Old fashioned, foot stomping, Southern gospel
Grandmother, loving and strong in spirit
Watchful eye of a guardian angel
Rocked her grandbabies to God’s lullabies
Cared for her family with heart and soul
Rejoiced faithfully to celebrate life
Bestowed in us, her Sunday tradition
