*The God Delusion*

by Terry Reilly

I struggled through “The God Delusion”,

it left me mired in deep confusion.

The author, Richard Dawkins told me:

“Your faith a fairy tale has sold thee.

There is no scientific basis,

your credulousness still amazes.”

Acknowledging his erudition,

I chose to favour my condition.

I firmly countered, “you can’t conceive,

the intangible essence I believe.

To grasp your logic I would be laith,

my spirit’s infused by steadfast faith.

That abstract concept’s beyond your ken,

upheld by stoutly Christian men.”

Writing Prompt
Write a poem about your faith.

laith = loath (Scottish vernacular)
This is a poetically reimagined public interchange between Richard Dawkins and me at a literary festival some years ago. I do not think I came off best. Amen!
