A children's story about an adventure with the fairies.

Hide and Seek with The Fairies

by jacquelyn popp

One sunny afternoon, two girls, Lily and Sophie, found themselves wandering deep into the woods behind their house. They had always heard stories about magical creatures that lived there, but never dared venture far enough to see them.

That day, however, they decided to explore. With backpacks full of snacks, they marched through the dense trees, giggling and chatting. Suddenly, a tiny figure zipped past them, glowing with iridescent wings.

"Did you see that?!" Sophie squealed, eyes wide.

"It’s a fairy!" Lily gasped. "Quick, let’s follow it!"

They chased the fluttering fairy through the woods, laughing and dodging branches. Soon, they reached a clearing where a group of fairies were busy making flower crowns and sipping nectar from little cups. One fairy, with sparkling purple wings, flitted over to them.

"Welcome!" she said with a mischievous grin. "We were just about to play hide and seek with the elves. You in?"

The girls nodded eagerly, and the fairy led them to a group of elves, who were already preparing for the game. The elves, with their pointy ears and cheerful faces, welcomed the girls with open arms.

The game began, and the forest was filled with laughter as Lily and Sophie ran through the trees, trying to hide behind giant mushrooms and tricky vines. Every time the elves came close, they’d giggle and dart away, narrowly escaping.

After a few rounds, it was time for a break. The fairies handed out small pastries that tasted like honey and sunshine, and the elves told jokes that made the girls laugh until their stomachs hurt.

As the sun began to set, the fairy with purple wings smiled at the girls. “You’re always welcome here. But remember, don’t tell anyone about us, or we might just turn you into a mushroom!”

Lily and Sophie looked at each other, wide-eyed and laughing. As they walked home, they couldn’t believe their day—two regular girls, playing hide and seek with fairies and elves in a secret part of the world.

They wouldn’t tell anyone, but they’d never forget
