A Blooming Colourful Display

Woodland Wildflowers

by Terry Reilly

Aconites grow tall and straight and wear a purple hood.

Buttercups make yellow chins but should not serve as food.

Cornflowers show a vivid blue, attracting honey bees.

Daisies, daffodils and docks spread widely, as they please.

Every humble wild flower can illuminate the wood.

ABC writing prompt entry
Writing Prompt
Write a five line poem that creates a mood, picture, or feeling. The first word of each line is in alphabetical order. Line 5 can begin with any letter.

Aconites are also known as Monkshood because of the shape of their flowers, and Wolfbane because they are poisonous to wolves and other animals, including man.
Buttercups are loved by children because of the *do you like butter?* game but taste really bitter, and can be seriously toxic to sheep and pigs.
Cornflowers not only have an intense blue hue but produce a succulent pollen much prized by honey-making insects.
Docks are known principally for the supposed nettle-sting relieving properties of their leaves, but can also produce spectacular cluster spikes of reddish-brown flowers.
Pays one point and 2 member cents.
