Friends invited us for Christmas one year. At the meal the elder son told a story of how his parents and grandmother dealt with the garden.
"Oh yes, never changes. Mum plants the shrubs, Dad prunes viciously, Grandma washes them away."
The indulgent smile on his grandma's face spoke volumes.
