A poem about Peace

Peace

by Harry Craft

The earth keeps turning

People are continually dying

My blistered soul keeps yearning

For the babies who are still crying

Peace we are not learning

Wars have ravaged and torn

My heart hurts with every beat

As if punctured by a bristled thorn

Summer brings its sweltering heat

While we bury the dead and mourn

Was it supposed to be this way?

Or did we get lost along our journey

Cluttering of our minds brought such dismay

Another ambulance, another victim on a gurney

The world continues to fight, even today

The rich keep getting strong

While the poor keep dying young

And that is just so wrong

When will the words sweeten our tongue

When will the fighting cease?

So, we can all enjoy a greater peace
