Entry for the true story flash contest
Blessed
by June Sargent

When most kids looked out their windows at night and saw twinkling stars - I saw fluorescent street lights.
I grew up in a city where we played hide-and-seek, not behind bushes and trees, but parked cars and trucks.
Instead of picking blueberries in a field, we picked a handful of penny candy each week from the corner store.
Materially, we had little - but lacked nothing. We were what some may consider poor, but never knew it, because our parents created a loving environment in which we felt rich - and blessed. Money had nothing to do with it.
